This matchbox cross demonstates three quotes, two of which were written on the inside hatch of a dory.  In 1966, David Brower of the Sierra Club wrote "Should we also fill the Sistine Chapel so tourists can get nearer the ceiling?"  Although Sistine was spelled incorrecty on the Dory - one gets the sense of the meaning.  Each tiny matchbox holds a small photograph from Barb's photo collection of a particular place (GRCA Colorado River trip here).  Cross in private collection.

Another memory cross, created to pay tribute to a special place and time in history situated within the Wrangell St Elias Mountains of Alaska.  Made entirely of scavenged wood from Kennicott townsite, copper accents, rusted wire and small rock fragments from a town almost 100 years old. This large shadow-box cross was made using Trader Joe's green tea mint boxes.  Each mint box has a clear plastic lid and each mint box contains a unique scene, from a bird's nest to a (found) raven's claw.  In private collection.

During the COVID-pandemic, Barbara adopted the term Novel Corona spelled backwards to read "Levon Anoroc." The various pieces created were numbered numerically in spanish.  This cross is part of the gallery series.  In private collection.

A Milagro is a physical symbol or "charm" and often embodies something a person desires healing or a miracle toward (a foot milagro; a lung milagro).  Used extensively in Catholicism and especially in Mexico.  This cross contains many milagros affixed with tiny red glass beads.  Sometimes milagros are placed with candles on alters in places of worship; churches or cathedrals.  Series #1. A cross with reflections of Mexico's El Dia de Muertos.  In private collection.

This cross was created to pay tribute to Trayvon Martin, a young black man who was needlessly killed by a "neighborhood watchman" who felt threatened.  11-year old Trayvon was killed in Florica and the shells on this cross were collected on a Florida beach.  In private collection.
